“My favorite place to go is the beach at Tybee Island. One day, we saw this happy graffiti on the pier. I was inspired to paint it – and photographed it to remember for later. When I was taking the picture, I saw a shadow in my shot. My daughter was taking a picture at that same moment, also of the words “I Love Life” painted on the pier. It’s warm fuzzy spontaneous times like these that are what makes life so wonderful.
Small piers carry beach-goers from the parking lot and sidewalks, over the rough sandy terrain to the smooth beachfront. The large pier at Tybee is home to food stands, music, fishing, and surveying the ocean. It is also a striking visual marker for finding one’s way back to the parking areas by the main public beach entrance. Under the pier, sometimes people hang hammocks and relax in the shade.
Sea birds like to gather on the pier. Abundant life, energy, and motion creates a beach community and instant bonding experience. Beachcombers search for treasures on cooler days. On hot days, people prefer to swim or sunbathe. All year round, people are playful- bringing kites, fishing poles, frisbees, volleyballs, pool noodles, swim floats, kickboards, surfboards, kayaks, and more. The sun shines often on Tybee, and it always feels like a blessing from God.
