Hey friends! If you’re on this guitar journey with me, the break we took from playing difficult chords is over. Today’s practice brings back the dreaded F chord with “The Sound of Silence”, which my dad enjoyed as the Simon and Garfunkle version, but Disturbed’s cover appeals to me more.
Even though I play the “easy” beginner version of the F chord (no barre), I don’t find it easy to play (yet! there’s hope ahead!). Any chord that requires my hands leave the comfort zone area of our familiar chords of G, C, Em, D, and even A and Am, forces me to make my fingers move faster than I’m comfortable with, and I have to concentrate to remember the correct chord shape. But I never thought ANY chord would feel comfortable and the beginner ones do now!
And my list of well-known chords is a bit longer, two more beyond the basic 4! So, if you’re learning to play and the chords still feel challenging, hang in there. Just keep practicing, practicing, practicing! It’s so worth it to experience the joy of playing music! Keep on strummin’! Getting better every day! xoxo
Sinon and Garfunkel are in their late 80’s now, but I think both would appreciate your version of their iconic song The Sounds of Silence. Thanks for keeping me updated in your guitar ventures.
