Letting Go while Learning Guitar

Wow, I look really pained there (in the above video thumbnail from YouTube)! I was passionate about the lyrics of the song. Playing guitar makes me feel like I’m in my own little world, where the music comes alive and I feel the words deeply. I love to play and I’m excited to be improving! The more I learn to play, the more songs I get to choose from!

Today’s practice was about letting go, feeling the music, and changing tempo (playing at different speeds). It’s good to use a song that has enough repetition that we can play it differently for each round of chorus, and when the song is familiar enough to have the basic melody memorized so that we can change things up and make it our own. I love MercyMe’s music, so it was easy to connect with the song “Here with Me” and focus more on passion, emotion, and letting go of focusing too much on the chords.

I did stumble a bit on the Bm chord though – I’m still not as comfortable with that one as I am the easier chords I learned at the beginning of my guitar journey. But, practice, practice, practice! I love that I can play more of my favorite songs now! If you are on this learning guitar adventure with me, I hope you are sticking with it and enjoying the experience! It’s a whole new world!

BTW: I’ll be painting on a new (new to me) instrument soon – more about that next time!

I hope this post finds you and your family doing well, wherever you are, and whenever you happen to have come across this. Sometimes it’s years later that someone will see something I’ve shared. So, if it’s you in the future, or you on this very day, God bless you and keep you – now and always. xoxo

  1. Keep the original feeling going in all your singing and playing. Your words and chords are honest and true and that is what music and musicians are supposed to do. God knows your heart and he feels that what you write and sing in his honor is honest and true and this comes out to me as I watch your music videos. Stay transparent and true in all that you do and God will honor you. Al and Lila Cobb
