Guitar and painting – New blog series!

A woman smiling while holding an acoustic guitar in a creative workspace, with guitars on the wall and an unfinished painting in the background.

My “Guitar and Painting” blog series begins today! (scroll down to see pictures of my new painting of a guitar in progress, and a video of me playing “Stand by Me”). I’ve been learning how to play the guitar after a lifetime of not believing I could do it. My husband suggested that I try a left handed guitar because, while Mom taught me to do most things right handed, I was actually born left handed. My brain is still wired that way. And he was right! I turned a guitar upside down and I could play! So I bought a left handed guitar four months ago and have been playing ever since. I’ve only learned 4 chords so far, but I’m loving every minute!

Here is the my new oil painting of a guitar (my guitar!) in progress, after the first and second sessions. You see that I built up more color in the second session. I’m not sure if I want to bring this into a photo realistic, highly detailed, finish, or leave it rougher and more artsy. I’ll play around with an abstract background next and see where that leads. Below the photos is a video of me playing this guitar.

I’m going through a difficult ordeal right now, and I’ve had to have faith in God and in the people who believe me. I need my friends to stand by me, and that’s why I feel this song so much. Remember, I’m brand new to playing guitar, so you might notice my mistakes – like when I end up strumming nearly off the sound hole by the end, oops! But, I truly love playing and I know I’ll get better. This new blog series will be about my journey learning how to play guitar, while also painting pictures OF guitars, and ON guitars! Picking up my first guitar to paint on tomorrow!!!

Make sure you subscribe if you haven’t already, so you don’t miss any new blog posts. I hope you enjoy my new series! Wishing all of you the best in this new year. 2026 has rolled out. Let’s make wonderful things happen!
