“Turning Angel”

Short time-lapse video to watch Natalie paint “Turning Angel”

A tribute to the Turning Angel monument, built over the graves of five children killed in a factory explosion in the early 1900’s:

She was recently vandalized, toppled, and had a broken wing. She is made whole here. This was my first time painting in only black and white, with no color at all. When I first heard about this statue being toppled and damaged, something about it tugged at my heart. When I found out that it was a memorial over the graves of five children, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I looked up the statue to see what it looked like… and decided to paint it. I understand how that feels… to create something to honor the deaths of people, and to have someone destroy it in a hateful action. That beautiful angel statue, installed as a memorial for children who died so tragically young- toppled to the ground with a broken wing…

“Jesus at the Table”

Watch Natalie paint this art in 2 minutes (time lapse)

“Jesus at the Table” is featured in the book “50 Oil Paintings Inspired by my Christian Faith” by artist Natalie Buske Thomas and can be purchased as gifts for yourself or others

From Natalie: “There is always enough room for you at Jesus’ table. Come as you are. Spiritual blessings will never run out.”

Matthew 14:14-21 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. “Bring them here to me,” he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

“Narrow Way”

Watch Natalie paint “Narrow Way” in 2 minutes (time lapse)

This art is part of the collection “50 Oil Paintings Inspired by my Christian Faith

From Natalie: “Inspired by Matthew 7:13-14: ‘Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.’ (I focused on the paths/roads) But I kept imagining an apple tree in the middle… between the two paths. I couldn’t let go of that image, so I looked it up to see if there was anything that could grow on a tree that is poisonous, that looks like an apple. There IS. It’s called a Manchineel Tree, or “tree of death”. Then I knew what the apple tree image was about. The half that is near the narrow path bears good fruit- red delicious apples. The half near the wide path bears poisonous fruit- in fact, the tree on that side is so poisonous that even being near it can be fatal. The tree that bears good or poisonous fruit also reminds me of the fruit of the Spirit: Galatians 5:22-23 ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.’ When we choose the narrow way, we may receive the fruit of the Spirit, which is the secret to a lifetime of happiness- and beyond.”

"We are the Angels that He Sends"

See oil painting “We are the Angels that He Sends” come to life in 2 minutes (time lapse)

Story of this angels painting: “This art was inspired by coincidence, fate, serendipity… or divine intervention, depending on your belief system. A casual friend I knew from many years ago contacted me out of the blue. She was traveling through the state I lived in- which was a long way from where we went to school together, and where she still resided. Knowing I lived in Minnesota at that time, she asked me for advice on best routes. Well, it turned out that she was going right by me. It would only be a small detour to drop by our house for a coffee break. So, while she’d never been to my home when we knew each other, and we’d never seen each other outside of a few classes at school, decades ago… she was happy to accept my offer of coffee. I wondered if we would even recognize each other. Of course we did! She greeted me with a big smile and I invited her into our quiet home. My husband had just had surgery and he was recovering in the bedroom. I was taking care of him on my own and I felt drained, overwhelmed. The stress of the surgery was over, and now I was exhausted, yet still anxious. Most of all, the quiet of the lonely house felt loud. But my friend was there- an angel at the door. She talked to me for hours. I gave her advice on something she was dealing with, and it was with reluctance that we finally hugged good-bye. God sent her to me, straight to my doorstep, right when I felt so alone and overwhelmed. Well, later on, when I thanked her and told her how she was an angel appearing at the right time, she was stunned, because it was she who felt that of me! Pouring her heart to me about the things she was struggling with, and receiving what she felt was authentic helpful advice, was me being HER angel, who just happened to live near where she had to pass through…with a listening ear, hugs, and coffee ready to pour.”

From Natalie:

“This art changed my life. It was deleted by a leftist hate/”activist” group that I was able to trace to funding by our own (USA) government through liberal organizations/”protesters”. I could talk about that connection for a long time, but that’s not what I want to say here. I want to talk about the moment when I saw a snarky devil cartoon on my website, where my Nativity blog used to be.

I had blogged about how this art was inspired by my dead parents’ handmade ceramic set that Mom poured into molds and Dad painted. I treasure that set, which was broken during a hardship move, and glued back together… just like me. I was broken and glued back together.

Being blacklisted, incited against, and threatened by my own government’s anonymous hateful henchmen was spirit crushing, and terrifying. I stayed off social media for nearly a year, even though I need to be active online if I want to be a serious artist. I was demoralized and afraid. The threats were scary, as they knew where I lived and what my children look like; they’d hacked into my private account files on the server. I felt that any anon person could be another who hated me and wanted to ruin everything I work for.

One hater said, ‘Good thing your father didn’t live to see you grow up.’ Dad served two tours in the Vietnam War, got cancer as a young man in his 20’s. Beat it. It came back. He lost his battle at age 37. I watched him die a painful death of great suffering.

Years later, I was my Mom’s caregiver. I watched her die too young after much suffering, that ended in a very dramatic experience of hospital neglect, in which I sang her favorite hymn, over and over, to her unconscious body as they worked her tiny frail chest with paddles, breaking her ribs and trying to bring her back for so long that I thought I couldn’t bear it a minute longer.

So… When they deleted my art, it felt personal, as intended, but I knew these were communist tactics and they didn’t know me at all. I was just another insignificant target on their list of thousands. I had done nothing wrong, but they were after me anyway, and would anyone notice or care that they were doing this to individuals like me? (No)

I reported the target list, the incitement, the hacking, etc., with evidence (I saved everything they did to me and also showed what I found via a simple search of public info), to many reporters, DHS, WH, others- no one responded. I was on my own. I went through a rough time, but it was a reflective time, and I emerged from it stronger.

Nothing will make me quit now. When I returned, I set my mind on creating 100 paintings. I did it. I have well over that now. My lifetime goal is 1,000. I will do that too- watch me. They thought they could erase me, make me quit. They could not. I was broken, but glued back together- just like this Nativity set.”
