“Miracle of Life”

2 Minute Time-lapse video to watch Natalie paint this art

God made us, and our DNA is precious. Our unique human design is known by our Creator and sacred to Him. It must not be altered, genetically modified, or destroyed, but allowed to lead to our miraculous birth, to God’s purpose and destiny for humanity.

Oil painting “Miracle of Life” by artist Natalie Buske Thomas

Psalm 139:13-16 NIV

“For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.”

“Statue of Liberty Struck by Lightning”

2 Minute Time-Lapse to watch Natalie paint

This painting was inspired by a real life weather event in which the Statue of Liberty in New York City was struck by lightning. This happened during a turbulent time in America and many found it to be an ominous sign. Or perhaps it was the opposite? Sometimes dark truth and judgement must come before healing.

“What the wicked dread will overtake them;
what the righteous desire will be granted.
When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone,
but the righteous stand firm forever.”
Proverbs 10:24-25

2 Chronicles 7:14
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

“The Moon and the Stars”

2 Minute Time-lapse to watch Natalie paint this art

This oil painting was inspired by this Scripture:

“You have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them”

Psalm 8

“Predator and Prey Alike”

2 Minute Time-lapse to watch Natalie paint this art from start to finish

Based on the book of Job from the Bible. Job was mocked – they said he didn’t have God’s favor because bad things were happening to him. Job said:
“What you know, I also know; I am not inferior to you… You, however, smear me with lies; If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom.” (Job 13)

Excerpt from “50 Oil Paintings Inspired by my Christian Faith

He talked about the beasts, fowl, fish, predators, prey, order of nature, and how they all serve God alike. They answer to the same Higher Power, there is only ONE above them all. In today's world, we see wicked and ugly people getting away with things, predators... while smearing us, lying about us, claiming us not worthy, not wanted, not good enough.

But God rules over us equally. There is no one worth more than we are.In the animal kingdom, there are injustices every day. Some poor creature gets eaten alive. All things bright and beautiful, and the Lord God created them all, but... yikes... it's not an easy life. Yet, there is an order, and all things come together under God's command. So when it feels as if the predators have all the favor of this world, it may help to think of Job, and how he lived a life of hardship, yet was loved and respected by God. These Scriptures were written so many years ago, yet the stories sound like they could be about 2020. My painting shows pairs of predators and prey, except for the Lion who stands above them all.

There are times when it seems the predators always win, but that's not true. There is a time and season for everything. When we get discouraged, perhaps we can think about the beauty of God's beasts, fowl, and fishes. His divine plan is mysterious, and sometimes painful...But there's always a larger picture, and we are part of it. We are not forgotten. Not unwelcome. We are loved.

“Guardian Angel”

2 Minute Time-Lapse to watch Natalie paint this art.

Psalm 91:11 “For he will command his angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways”

Excerpt from book “50 Oil Paintings Inspired by my Christian Art”:

I can explain what the painting means, but as always, the art is a language and you can choose what you want it to mean... also, it may mean something different depending on when you see it. But I'll talk about what I was thinking about for this one. I wanted to do a traditional guardian angel oil painting- in which there's a guardian angel leading a child, but I wanted the danger to be a historical reference to the dangers of these times we live in, so... a city on fire seemed to represent this troubled time.
I also added symbolic flowers- snowdrops. The flower is used for both celebrations and for funerals- which seems to represent well the situation we are in.

“When our world burns,
and we are delivered,
there is both grief
and renewal- hope,
that we will have a bright future”

So I painted a snowdrop flower in each hand, knowing that it looks like a sad little flower due to its wilting nature - it grows like that, sort of upside down. But with deeper meaning, the flower symbolizes purity, hope, and a bright future. I believe that we are in a paradox, of simultaneous destruction and creation.

“Well, that’s what I was thinking of…
our cities on fire is heartbreaking, hostile, evil, and depressing.
May we soon be delivered,
and our nations’ children have hope for the future.”

“Trees and Stream”

Watch this 2 minute time-lapse of oil painting “Trees and Stream”

Psalm 1: “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked but whose delight is in the law of the Lord. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.”

We can go to spiritual trees and streams whenever we choose. An orchard promises us fruit of the spirit:
Galatians 5:22-23: “…love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness & self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Excerpt from the book “50 Oil Paintings Inspired by my Christian Faith”:

This painting took on a life of its own, as I painted while praying and listening to meaningful lyrics. In the end, it is different from the daytime or morning scene I thought I was painting, and I never intended to add a person.

        Now, the feeling is there...
of being so lost in time,
        so peaceful in the orchard,
        by the stream,
        that evening is closing in.
        The sun is going down,
and she's in no hurry to leave.

May you have this feeling today. Spend time doing something that makes you feel close to God.

May God bless and keep you.
May His face shine upon you,
        and give you peace.

“Fruitful Vine”

2 Minute Time-lapse video to watch Natalie paint this art

Psalm 128:
“Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord.”

Excerpt from book “50 Oil Paintings Inspired by my Christian Faith”:

May we be the fruitful vine, that makes a happy home- or appreciative of one who is. Family is a blessing, as is the freedom to enjoy the people we love.

“Cross and Lily”

2 Minute Time Lapse – Watch Natalie paint this art from start to finish

This type of flower is known as “resurrection lily”, Lycoris squamigera. Excerpt from book “50 Oil Paintings Inspired by my Christian Faith”:

Redemption is beautiful.
No man can condemn us,
when we have been freed by mercy.
Never take on shame that doesn't belong to you.
Leave your burdens at the cross.
Be free. Be happy. Be loved.

Easter is a time to rejoice, but every day is a good day to be thankful for deliverance, mercy, and grace. Inner peace begins with knowing that we are forgiven and loved by God. When we are no longer slaves, we experience true joy.
