Let my People Go oil painting by Natalie Buske Thomas

This painting was a response to oppression and tyranny (losing health insurance, doctor, clinic, with no affordable replacement, thereby causing permanent health issues of the artist’s husband, due to delayed care from being forced off local clinic and traveling instead out of town to the VA). Is this freedom? Lied to about a passage of a bill, forced off an earned benefit, to give it away to others? Some families protected by the government while others are destroyed by that same government… Are the people coming TO America, or trying to flee? The ambiguous nature of the painting leaves the question unanswered. Perhaps it is simultaneously both.
