Playing Guitar Faster, Casting Crowns “Nobody”

Natalie Buske Thomas learning guitar Nobody by Casting Crowns

Today’s practice focuses on speed. If you’re learning guitar along with me, I’ve put a pause on learning new chords so that we can work on other skills, like playing smoother and faster, at more difficult tempos and dynamics. Casting Crown’s song “Nobody” is a fun challenge!

The easy version only involves these chords: G, Em, C, G and A, which should all be familiar by now, so we can turn our attention to changing chords faster and landing in the correct chord shape more often. If you’re like me, sometimes I don’t hit the complete chord with the first strum, as my fingers are a bit too slow to get there on time, but I’m getting better. Songs like this one work as an excellent practice drill to make those fingers move! When we switch back to a song with a slower tempo it will feel easier in comparison.

It helps to choose a song that you connect with and is enjoyable to play. I love Casting Crown’s songs and will probably work my way through most of their albums!

BTW: I’ll be painting on another guitar soon (electric again). I hope all is well with you and yours. Here in the Deep South of Savannah, Georgia USA, the temperatures are finally starting to drop, and the air is getting more comfortable. I’m discovering that my vines have taken advantage of me staying inside during the summer heat to grow like monster invaders, up several trees, and making a nuisance of themselves throughout my garden! I started the pruning process yesterday and today I’ve regained control over the plants. All is well!
